Glory Days (1981)

If I were to channel Len in June, 1981, I suspect that he would cite the moment in this photo as “the highlight of my life so far,” the winning hit in the championship game of the Devon-Strafford Little League.

Final inning, score tied, two outs, Len steps up to bat. I’m sitting on the bleachers with the moms. What would be the collective noun for a group of Little League dads? A pride? A murmuration? A shrewdness […of apes]? From the collective of dads, I hear a  coach’s voice, “This guy will get a hit.” The next sound is the crack of the bat. Len drives in the winning run. He wore his Twins’ practice T-shirt all summer long.
