The Alvar Aalto Foundation
Riihitie 20 FI-00330 Helsinki
From: Christina Pablo
This is his home I visited in 2014 and it's not that easy to get around Finland. It was a bus and then a long walk if I recall correctly. It feels strangely alive and spiritual, even with no one living there, like a container for living that has the humanity built into it's sinew.

The Points of My Compass: Letters from the East, the West, the North, the South
By: E.B. White
From: Reenie & Larry Kunz
Originally published in 1954, these essays are models of clear writing about a wide range of subjects (nature, technology, astrophysics, disarmament, his dachshund). Here is a modest example from ‘Coon Tree,’ in which White weighs the costs of permitting his raccoon neighbor to continue eating the corn he has planted on his Maine farm: “I am sure of one thing: I like the taste of corn, but I like the nearness of coon even better, and I cannot recall ever getting the satisfaction from eating an ear of corn that I get from watching a raccoon come down a tree just at the edge of dark.”

Back of the painting
Brooklyn, NY
From: Karen Burkhardt
On his 50th birthday…
The breeze at Dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don’t go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the door sill where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don’t go back to sleep.

Ducati Monster 900 S4

From: Christina Pablo
I wish I could say that this was waiting and parked on Cabrini when you look out your bedroom window like this is a John Hughes film and you're my Molly Ringwald..
And for all the times you said my 2008 Prius literally has horses under the hood (because you are just HIGH-larious), now I see if for a similar price I could get sexier horses and a helmet...

Now I kinda understand the appeal.

Fishing Trip
Birthday boy's choice
From: Christina
You catch them, I'll cook them. Prior to this project, I had no idea how much you loved fishing but seeing the photos of you as a kid till 20 years ago was endearing. Sure I saw the rowboat at the lake when we went last summer and you asked me how I felt about fishing. My answer is still a soft and negotiable No, however I will certainly eat what you catch assuming it's not out of the Hudson.
